Never pioneered.
Finished high school. Went to college where I got a dual bachelors in math and english. Then post baccaulerate work in accounting. Then my masters in Taxation. Then law school for my juris doctorate. Then sat for the CPA exam. Ten freaking years, I must have been nuts, but I had a big chip on my shoulder from being raised a dub. Born in, never baptized.
At first my parents did everything they could to talk me out of it. When it became apparent that wasn't going to work they were mostly indifferent and I think always waiting for me to fail. By the time I finished law school they had come around and were very enthusiastic.

Witnesses NEW attitude toward Marijuana!!!
by gumby inmost of us remember the society's viewpoint of using marijuana.
countless of articles condemed the drug saying it was mind altering and allowed a place for the demons.. articles were abundant concerning the greek word "pharmakia"..or druggery and included marijuana as being a part of that.
but alas!

The WBTS is one of the most legalistic faiths you can possibly find which leads to often absurd outcomes with regards to their dogma. One only has to look at the blood issue which is totally FUBAR to realize what happends when you legalize articles of faith.

Just how hyped was 1975?
by MuadDib inaight.
i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.

All I can tell you is what I saw and heard. In our congregation and at the assemblies we attended it was very much the buzz, it was on the tip of everyone's tongue, speculation was rampant, everyone was holding their breath, the tension was electric. Every news story that came out was disected for signs that "this is it". Frankly, as a child I lived in terror for the whole year.

Could the GB be using this forum?
by Kristofer ini sometimes wonder if perhaps some of the higher ups in the organization are visiting this forum.
perhaps it has become a valuable source for them to "test the waters" before something goes public to see what the reaction would be?
am i overreacting?

I'm sure they do, and sadly I bet they pick up some information that benefits them, but such is life. I really think the internet and their unwillingness to go mainstream will be the death of them as far as a major sect.
Wouldn't it be a hoot if a GB member showed up on one of these boards?

OLD information for NEW light
by architect inhas anyone ever stop to realize that since the new change in thought regarding the generation that jesus spoke about was from references dated: (w95 11/1 pp.
1011 saved from this wicked generation...).
1957 walter bauer's greek-english lexicon.... 1940 or so w.e vine's expository dictionary.... 1964 theological dictionary of the new testament.

The whole thing would actually be hysterically funny if it wasn't for 6 million or so folks jacking their lives around on behalf of the GB and their New Light.

What made us different?
by Lo-ru-hamah ini am wondering, what made all of us different?
to explain.
obviously most all of us here were at one time brainwashed and endoctrinated with the rest of the rank and file of jw's.

I was born in and just hated it from day one. I'm not really sure why, I know the restrictions (sports, holidays, etc.) were part of it, feeling like a freak was another part of it, and even as a kid just somehow not buying it, the stuff just never rang true for me ever.
Born under a bad sign I guess.

Tremendous changes in a short time.....
by AK - Jeff ini mean if you think about it - and i might be off on the time a little - in the past 6 months we have heard of the following;elimination of the hard cover biblereducing of awake to monthly additionsdownsizing at bethel worldwideelimination of bethel elders.
there may be others that i forgot about.
but these are all very significant, and they are all happening at once, in a relative sense.those of us in the apostate circles may not realize just how the total impact might be on the flock.

I always feel like a reverse dub with this stuff, always watching for signs of the end, the end of the WBTS that is.
From what I can see of my family, the changes tend to disturb them, which in turn makes them sort of hunker down and become even more closed off. The disturbing stuff keeps piling up and their response is to just basically force themselves to not think about it at all, just tune it out and I can almost hear them chanting under their breath, "just hold on, just hold on, just a little longer".
